Car Hire Prague Airport

Located on the northwest edge of Prague, Prague Airport is a modern facility and one of the most spacious international airports in the region. It lies 17km northwest of the main city. Initially, the airport was known as Prague-Ruzyne before it was renamed in 2012 as Václav Havel Airport Prague. This was in honour of the country’s first president after the Velvet Revolution. Václav Havel served first as the president of Czechoslovakia and later on as the president of Czech Republic.

Prague Airport receives all international flights considering that there are no other airport facilities in Prague. However, there are other three small airports and a number of landing areas that cater for helicopters and they are located at these airports and hospital compounds. It takes a taxi between 25 to 30 minutes to travel from the airport to the city centre but if you opted for a public means you should be prepared to spend a full hour in your rental car to reach your destination.

What is encouraging about Prague Airport is that it is well equipped with modern airport facilities and offers the same comfort as any other airports found in Europe. The buildings at the airport provide important services such as offering rooms for conferences and also available here is space for VIP and businessmen and women as well as room for families. Generally, the airport exhibits a comfortable ambiance; it is clean and quite a good place to find your way out.

Important information

  • If you are planning to travel to Prague, it is good to note that there is actually no railway that connects either to or from the airport. But you can always make use of a car hire available at the underground stations. It will take you approximately 30 minutes to reach the nearest Metro line A
  • You can also travel from the airport using a taxi, bus or shuttle.
  • It only takes you 30 minutes to travel the 20km distance by taxi from the Prague Airport to the city centre.
  • The airport is served by three terminals – terminal1 is designed for UK flights while terminal 2 has been preserved for flights coming from the Schengen-zone countries. While terminal 1 flight is passport controlled, terminal 2 is not.
  • It is more convenient to use ATMs to withdraw Czech crowns in the arrivals than going to the bureau de change at the airport as the charges here are a bit escalated. Restaurants at the airport are also expensive so if you want to save some money, you can utilise a car hire to get one that will move to the less expensive eateries at the arrival areas.
