Car Hire Brussels Train Station

There is a pretty good reason as to why Brussels is a much celebrated city; not only in Belgium but the world over, in general. The city is just abuzz with life and glamour with very friendly locals and much to see and do while there. Upon arrival at the Brussels Train Station, one may take a bus or taxi to their hotel room; but the best means of transport has been and still is getting a car. From the train station, you may get a rental agency conveniently from within the station. However, these are mainly the major international players and may be a little costly; for something cheaper, there are plenty of smaller local car hire companies to choose from and these can be accessed from within Brussels town centre; not far off.

Brussels Driving Rules and Regulations

They say that when in Rome, do as the Romans do; when driving your car rental in Brussels therefore, there are a couple of things to keep in mind to avoid getting on the wrong side of the law.

  1. To begin with, driving in Brussels, or in Belgium rather, is on the right hand side of the road.
  2. Children below 12 years should not be seated at the front passengers’ seat unless a child seat is provided.
  3. The alcohol limit is 50mg/100ml and drunk driving is fined heavily; the fine increasing with the level of intoxication.
  4. Fuel filling stations are normally closed on Sundays but carrying petrol in a can is allowed so ensure to have a can in your car rental to avoid getting stranded.
  5. Wearing of front and back seat belts is a must.
  6. During poor daytime visibility; as a result of weather conditions; dipped headlights should be used.
  7. Road signs in Belgium are in French and/or Flemish so a translation booklet might come in handy just in case you are not conversant with either or both of the languages.

In any case, the road system is in almost tip-top condition and so driving around should not be a problem at all. For extra precaution though, you could get a map of the area form the local council’s offices or even tourist shops. Get a car hire and revel in all Brussels has to offer; from the phenomenal Grand Place – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to the Palace of Justice, to the renowned statue - Manneken Pis; there is definitely something for everyone in Brussels.
