Environment and Heritage Service for Northern Ireland
Environment and Heritage Service (EHS) is an Agency within the Department of the Environment (NI). Through its Natural Heritage Grants Programme it aims to 'encourage the conservation and enhancement of key elements of the environment and its wildlife, and the provision of facilities which help as wide a range of people as possible to enjoy and appreciate our natural heritage.' Natural Heritage grants are therefore available for a wide range of projects and activities. The EHS provides a detailed guide in a downloadable pdf format. Department of Agriculture and Rural Development
The Department of Agriculture and Rural development for Northern Ireland operates a number of grant schemes that may be relevant for farmers who are also tourism providers. Most of DARD's EU -funded assistance is available through three programme:
The Rural Development Regulation Plan (Accompanying Measures) for Northern Ireland 2000 - 2006.
The NI Programme for Building Sustainable Prosperity 2000 - 2006.
The EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation in Northern Ireland and the Border Region of Ireland.
Other programmes may be available under community initiatives such as LEADER+ and INTERREG III.
One example of a DARD funding measure is the Farm Waste Management Scheme (Northern Ireland) is designed to assist farmers to provide new and improved farm waste facilities and to assist compliance with the Nitrates Directive. Grant aid is available for the installation of new or improved livestock slurry or manure storage systems or silage effluent tanks. Grant aid is provided at a rate of 40% on the first £85,000 of eligible expenditure.
