Faughan Walk
Learmount Forest covers just over 120 hectares of the foothills at the Northern face of the Sperrin Mountains. The River Faughan rises on the highest mountain in the Sperrins — Sawel Mountain — and then flows 46km to Lough Foyle, entering the forest under the Footstick bridge at Altinure. Near here you may be able to see the tracks of an otter in the sand of the river's edge, and further downstream dippers are common, along with the occasional heron or grey wagtail — possibly even a kingfisher. Various supporters have produced 3 A4 leaflets which give more information covering the forest trails, flowers and trees.
